Seven Months (5/15/11)

Griffin was seven months old on Sunday.  I really can't believe it.  We are officially on the downhill slide of our first year with a baby...They grow up so fast! (cliche, I know.)

He wanted to eat the sign this time...as you can tell.

This month Griffin has been a pure joy, as has been his pattern.  He has been loving to play peek-a-boo and laugh.  He can fake cough with the best of them and he loves to banter with his coughs back and forth with anyone who will do it.  Griffin is a little bit of a drama king and loves to be the center of attention, too...not quite sure where he got that. Ha!  He will smile and flirt and put on a show if there are dozens of pairs of eyes on him, but when they are off he will show off his set of lungs in some unpleasant tones.

Griffin - we think - got his last teeth for a while this month.  He's had eight teeth since about the first week after he turned six months old.  It's been interesting: Griffin with teeth.  I'll put it this way: We are beginning the weaning process.  Done. :)

Griffin has also been struggling to sleep through the night since he's gotten all his teeth.  He started consistently sleeping through the night at about two and half months old, but it has been on and off since the first tooth came in.  But we are proud to say he has slept through the night for three nights in a row now (10 plus hours) and we are thrilled.   Way to go Griffin!

This month has also been filled with trying lots of food!  He hasn't turned anything down yet.  He's had avacados, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, apples, pears, peaches, bananas, bluberries, and strawberries.  If only I ate as healthily as he did!

Everywhere we go, people continue to comment on his eyes and sometimes his hair.  I must agree.  Griffin, you have some beautiful, big blue eyes!  And, from your momma, you have a great big beautiful smile with two sweet dimples to go with it.  I'm so proud!

Physically, Griffin is sitting up like a champ and making his way around the floor by rolling... a LOT.  It's getting to where it's hard for me to leave the room just to go switch out laundry for fear of him rolling under some furniture or down the hall!  He pivots and scoots on his belly, too.  He's pushed up on all fours a couple of times, but quickly falls back down.  Griffin's been experimenting with a sippy cup, too.  He really likes the ice cold water, but I don't think he likes the sippy cup that much.

This month, Griffin started  sitting up in high chairs at restaurants and sits in the cart at the store.  He still LOVES to see his Aunt Rachel and his big cousins.  He's pretty fascinated by his baby cousin, Bonnie, too.

At seven months, Griffin, you are about 18 pounds and almost 28 inches long.  You are BIG!  We love you so much and can't put into words the joy you have brought us over the past seven months.  Your laughter makes our hearts soar and we pray every night that as you grow your laughter and smile with bring pure joy to others.

The rest of your details are in your baby book and baby calendar!  Here are a few of my favorite pics:
I just think this is so funny - Chris and I smiling and Griffin screaming!
Griffin's first taste from Yogi and BooBoo's garden.  Mmmmm - strawberries...

First Mother's Day and Baby Dedication

May 8, 2011 was my first real Mother's Day.  I am so lucky to have gotten to spend it with two of the best mothers on the entire planet: MY mom (which makes me super blessed), and my older sister, Rachel, who is also Griffin's "mom" two days a week while I am at church.  Woo hoo!  What a day!

It was also the baby blessing/dedication at our church.  Rachel snapped  few shots for me:

You can't really see him, but my dad is behind Chris doing an elder's blessing for our family.  The other elder in the picture is Mike Gilbert.  But here is a little shot I got of Griffin and Dad.  (I LOVE the outfit Griffin has on...this is one I'll keep forEVER.)

Then Dad took us all to lunch.  Griffin figured out that he's not supposed to get most things on the table...and so these are the things he wanted the MOST.  Ha!  He was funny!

And what did I get on Mother's day?  Griffin left this for me over night (somehow!) and it was waiting for me when I woke up!

And Chris left me a card with a message that he's going to get me some shoes!  This is the last part of the card... you get the idea:

And here we are, me and my little prince...on my first Mother's Day.   Thank you Chris and Griffin for making me the happiest mommy in the world!

and we're beginning to play with cups! (April 30th)

Sorry this is a little late, but Griffin is learning the joy of ice cold water in a sippy cup.  This picture was after we got back from Ira's wedding on April 30, 2011.
Griffin, you are getting so big!

Ira's Wedding (wierd to read, isn't it?)

My brother got married!!  It was such a lovely wedding and we are all so proud to call Kelly Rene Cook Spies a part of our family now.

Please see Rachel's blog for wedding pictures.  I didn't really carry around my camera and my baby very well!

But we did get a good shot of all the cousins:

And I just love this picture of Griffin and me.  I LOVE that this is his first meeting with mud.  Captured perfectly. :) (Thanks, Rachel!)

And my mom tried to get a family shot of us:

Big Sitter

Well -  Griffin's been sitting for 2 or three weeks now... pretty much since right after he turned 6 months, but here are some pics of him right after he started doing it:

Now he's a pro and even rides in the shopping cart like a big boy!  He LOVES it!

I've been so proud of him - and he's proud of himself.  He has been so happy to just sit and play now that he can.  He is SO clsoe to pushing up on his own.  He rolls ALL over the floor and is scooting himself forward some...Looks like we'll be budgeting child-proofing items soon!!

easter 2011 - Griffin's first!

So,  this is a little late, but here's my little Easter bunny:

and here he is with his basket:

and here he is with all of his cousins getting going through their baskets after the hunt at  our house:

We had a great  Easter.  Chris's parents came down and stayed the night Saturday and then went to church with us on Sunday.  Then my WHOLE family came over for pulled pork tacos and an egg hunt!  Such a FUN day!
